Abstract
This qualitative study examines the views and practices of frontline providers working in supportive housing for adults with serious mental illness and how frontline workers understand their work as it relates to consumer mental health recovery. Utilizing 84 interviews with providers (N=35) and 106hours of observation of provider practice, a grounded theory of frontline practice in supportive housing is provided. Analyses revealed distinct differences between providers working within transitional versus permanent housing programs in their orientation to recovery. Implications for the design of the supportive housing continuum of care are discussed.
