Abstract

Disc electrophoretic separation of soluble proteins of rat brain and experimental tumors of the rat nervous system were performed in 10% polyacrylamide gels. As judged on the basis of relative mobilities, differences in the prealbumin protein band pattern in gels of rat brain and different tumors of the rat nervous system induced by methylnitrosourea (MNU) were more of a quantitative nature. The front bands after electrophoresis in 7.5% polyacrylamide gels using a continuous buffer system of soluble proteins of rat brain, mixed gliomas, oligodendrogliomas, astrocytomas and neurinomas all contained antigenically identical material to beef S100 protein in agreement with an earlier immunodiffusion study.
