Abstract

The water resources of the world are described in relation to: (a) evaluation of present and future needs, (b) collection of data, (c) biological pollution, (d) drinking water supply, (e) pollution by chemicals, (f) pollution by excessive nutrients, (g) salinity and alkalinity, (h) thermal pollution, (i) organic waste treatment and disposal, (j) need for a systems approach. The possibilities of constructive action, particularly on an international front, are discussed.
