Abstract

Abstract This contribution describes a new four-step calculation strategy for the synthesis of optimal water network with treatment units. The proposed strategy involves the solution of four models consist of linear programming (LP) and mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) followed by mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) and the last is MINLP where the main objective is to minimize total annual cost (TAC) of water network with treating unit. The most economical network is slightly found from first through the last step. This work use data from published work of Sotelo-Pichardo et al. (2011) as case study which is fixed flowrate problem with several treatment units. Similar water network result is found by this work strategy compared with published work. The water network is represented in grid diagram. All mathematical models of this work are solved by DICOPT as solver of General Algebraic Modelling System (GAMS).
