Abstract
Mathematical modeling is a modern approach which helps land development specialists and drainage engineers to carry out hydrological and hydraulic analysis. Thus, specialists and engineers can compute and select easily appropriate values for technical parameters and develop reliable projects for land management, drainage and storm sewers networks in a short time. The paper presents three methods used to define the design storm: Rational Method, Modified Rational Method and SCS Method. On the other hand, three infiltration models are described as follows: Horton Infiltration Equation, Green & Ampt Algorithm and SCS Infiltration Method. These mathematical models are used on a large scale for storm water management and are included in all important software packages. Using this software, surface water management models can be developed for catchment basins, as a basis for drainage facilities and storm sewer network design. A short water management application will be presented at the end of this paper.
