Abstract

It is found that the addition of a small quantity of warm plasma to a mirror confined hot plasma stabilizes the high density convective loss cone mode. For example, with a well randomized distribution appropriate to a mirror ratio of 10 and with low electron temperature, the relative warm plasma density needed is 2.7 per cent and its relative energy is 6.3 per cent.
