Abstract
Walther Fol (1832-1890) est l’un des plus importants mécènes des musées genevois au XIXe siècle. 
 En 1864-1865, il entreprend un voyage en Égypte et remonte le Nil jusqu’à Assouan, en compagnie du peintre lorrain Hector Leroux (1829-1900) et d’un « homme de lettres » genevois nommé Louis Steiner (1820-1869). L’article propose une présentation et une analyse du journal tenu par Fol lors de son périple égyptien, ainsi qu’une présentation rapide des objets pharaoniques offerts par lui à la Ville de Genève. Un appendice retrace la biographie de Louis Steiner, l’un de ses compagnons de voyages.
