Abstract

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in France, Europe and the world. 49,000 new cases of lung cancer were expected in France in 2017, representing 14% of all new cases of cancer; 31,000 deaths were expected, accounting for 21% of all cancer deaths. Its presentation (age, sex, histological type) has recently changed, mainly due to changes in smoking practices; exposure to carcinogens in the workplace is also more widely taken into account. Despite the introduction of new drugs and new therapeutic strategies, overall patient survival has improved relatively little in recent years.
