Abstract

The role of oxygen in the corrosion associated with high temperature water systems utilizing low carbon steel containment has been under study for many years. This report describes the “in situ” visual effects of oxygen and oxide coatings on the corrosion occurring in a high velocity water loop system at temperatures up to 600 F. The visual effects are correlated with previously reported corrosion data measured by physical methods. It is concluded that oxygen inhibits the corrosion process. 3.4.6
