Abstract
Kleiven, J. Verbal communications and intensity of delivery. Scand. J. Psychol., 1973, 14, 111–113.‐Five groups of Norwegian high‐school students were shown staged video‐taped interviews on a current political issue, in which the verbal content was identical while intensity of delivery by one and the same interviewee was varied through paralinguistic means. As judged from subsequent free description of the interview, subjects paid more attention to the verbal message and less to the speaker and his behavior under moderate than under high or low intensity of delivery. However, recall and recognition of the verbal content were unaffected by mode of delivery.
