Abstract
We study a two-mode squeezed state of the electromagnetic field, in which each mode is degenerate in frequency, but they have orthogonal polarizations. We use a degenerate four-wave-mixing geometry and two-photon transitions for these squeezed states. The modes are treated in a mean-field approximation that includes the effects of vacuum fluctuations. Material parameters of sodium vapor and the semiconductor CuCl are used to illustrate the results.
