Abstract

Ferumoxytol is increasingly reported as an alternative to gadolinium-based contrast agents for MR angiography (MRA), particularly for patients with renal failure. This article summarizes more than 3 years of clinical experience with ferumoxytol-enhanced MRA for a range of indications and anatomic regions. Ferumoxytol-enhanced MRA has many advantages including that it is safe for patients with renal failure and provides a lengthy plateau of vascular signal as a blood pool agent that allows longer navigated MRA sequences.
