Abstract

Variability by Concept: Group Analysis and Group Psychotherapy Within the Goettingen Model of Group Psychotherapy The "Goettingen Model of Group Psychotherapy" is a clinical and empirical approach to understanding group processes developed over more than 40 years. The model offers an integrative frame for different group theories and for practical work with groups. Social factors, psychic structure and disorders of group participants, time allotted for working in a group and group setting variables are taken into account. Theories within this model were derived from psychoanalysis, social psychology and empirical research. They have widened and partly changed over time. Connections to approaches within CBT, Mentalization Based Therapy MBT, Group Analysis according to Foulkes and to Developmental Psychology and Relational Psychoanalysis have had influence on working with groups and on training group leaders. An integrative model for understanding and using group processes has developed and remains open for new developments.
