Abstract
Jarosite produces from zinc electrolytic processing industries directly affects the environment, and its universal disposal has become a major environmental issue. Jarosite sludge is categorized as hazardous waste by the European Waste Catalogue due to higher concentrations of toxic elements such as iron, lead, zinc, sulfur, cadmium, chromium, copper, etc. The primary source of jarosite is electrolytic zinc processing globally, which causes significant issues due to its category as dangerous waste. Besides, jarosite waste often contains many other essential metals. Thus, attention to reprocessing jarosite waste to recover valuable products has also increased during the last few years. Furthermore, it is reviewed that the jarosite can be converted into useful materials, such as nano-particles, pigments, filling materials, acidic reagents, adsorption materials, catalytic materials, construction materials, etc.
