Abstract
Patent valuation has for a long time been a matter of serious concern within the research-based pharmaceutical industry. However, although specific drug patents have been evaluated technologically, and economists’ general (non-drug-specific) patent valuation models are well developed, direct application to the pharmaceutical industry of existing approaches to valuation is associated with tremendous challenges. This article proposes a systematic framework for analyzing pharmaceutical patent value, which, unlike previous approaches, will integrate technological, commercial, and legal indicators. This work is of great significance to pharmaceutical researchers, managers, and investors in their decision-making in relation to patents and patent value.
