Abstract

Recently the occurrence of Valepotriates in the aerial parts of several Valerianaceae species was reported for the first time. Continuing the investigations this class of natural products has now also been found in the aerial parts of Valeriana wallichii DC, Valeriana dioica L., Valeriana tripteris L., Valeriana simplicifolia (Rchb.) Kabath, and Fedia cornucopiae (L.) Gaertner. Using TLC it could be demonstrated, that there is no completely conformity in the composition of the valepotriates in roots, stems, and leaves. The four known valepotriates valtrate, didrovaltrate, acevaltrate, and IVHD–valtrate were isolated from the aerial parts of the plant Valeriana wallichii and were identified by m.p., UV–absorption– and IR–spectra.
