Abstract

A novel highly isolated very compact ultra wide band (UWB) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) universal synchronous bus (USB) dongle antenna is proposed in this paper for personal area network (PAN) application. The proposed MIMO antenna has an overall size of 14×39 mm2, consists of two identical compact UWB antenna of size 14×16 mm2. The return loss of the antenna is < −10dB and coupling is < −20dB in measurement and simulation over the range from 3 GHz – 10.6 GHz. The radiation pattern of the antenna is omnidirectional and the calculated envelope correlation coefficient is less than 0.04. Moreover, the MIMO configuration is independent from any type of isolating or matching circuits, which makes it more compact and suitable for universal serial bus (USB) dongle application.
