Abstract

This article shows a comparison between flexible pavement and rigid pavement for use in runways. The authors compared them by designing a landing and takeoff runway for the Guarulhos airport, in rigid and flexible pavement, using the FAARFIELD software. A life and performance analysis for each lane was sized using FAARFIELD and establishing a performance model. The results developed a maintenance strategy and a management system for each type of pavement. Finally, a comparative cost analysis was made for each alternative. It was possible to demonstrate greater durability in the case of rigid pavement, less need for intervention.
