Abstract

The transforming hand hygiene culture and improvement initiative was a “cross-continents” collaboration of 9 hospitals in 8 different countries across 3 regions of Middle East, Asia Pacific and Europe: • The project cohort “met virtually” to systematically apply the Robust Process Improvement methodology in kicking off the local project at the participating health care organization, as well as sharing and learning from each other any successful implementation strategies to overcome the local and global barriers. • The improvement work were conducted in several different types of hospitals, varying from academic medical centers, public governmental hospitals to specialized care private hospitals. Problem: Reduce Healthcare Associated Infections by improving hand hygiene. System: Expand the scope of hand hygiene accountability beyond regular infection control to transform the culture of patient safety.
