Abstract

This paper deals with a research project that was undertaken to determine the effect of sludge on the strength and plasticity of concrete. Since any successful additives used with concrete must not cause serious reductions in the strength of the concrete, the first phase of the testing investigated the effect of sludge on the compressive strength of concrete. It was anticipated that very small amounts of the sludge would produce the desired increase in plasticity. Therefore, the strength characteristics of the treated concrete were studied using low amounts of the additive.
