Abstract

SUMMARY This paper describes the development of a hypermedia environment for language learning that has evolved from a joint project between the Language Centre and the Interactive Learning Centre at the University of Southampton. The paper examines the design process which has evolved during the adaptation of several multimedia resources to a hypermedia presentation and the supporting infrastructure that is provided for the student. The paper also poses some questions for the research agenda which must underpin the process of creating and integrating resource‐based materials for a contemporary education in modern languages.
