Abstract

Antioxidants in seminal plasma protect spermatozoa from oxidative stress. Oxidative stress which results in sperm dysfunction. The aims of the present study were: 1) to measure the levels of total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in seminal plasma of a cohort of infertile men and controls with proven and unproven fertility; 2) establish a cut off value that can distinguish between infertile men and controls; and 3) validate the sensitivity and specificity of the calorimetric assay using the TAC test kit. This is important to differentiate infertile men who may benefit from antioxidants.
