Abstract

It was originally shown by Ziolkowski et al. (1982) that the far-field signature of an air gun array could be computed from near-field measurements. This is useful because of the practical difficulties in measuring the farfield radiation pattern of marine seismic source arrays, especially on the continental shelf due to the shallow depth of water; where as near-field measurements can always be made, thus providing a shot-by-shot estimate of the far-field signature as the survey proceeds.
