Abstract
Balloon aortic valvuloplasty has been shown to be an effective means of acutely reducing outflow tract obstruction in children 1 and adults 2,3 with aortic stenosis. In the present study we describe 3 patients with aortic stenosis who entered the hospital and catheterization laboratory in a stable hemodynamic state, but deteriorated acutely during routine diagnostic catheterization. In all 3 patients, balloon valvuloplasty was successfully performed as a bailout procedure after conventional measures failed to restore adequate systemic perfusion.
