Abstract

Field studies were conducted during 1974–8 to determine the effect of an asphalt subsurface barrier 2 mm thick at a depth of 60 cm on crop production, water and nitrogen conservation. The results showed 100 per cent increase in moisture and nitrogen retention. This led to an average increase in the production of pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoides) of 40–60 per cent.
