Abstract
Outlines the geologic setting of the Rum Jungle uranium province (Katherine-Darwin area), Northern Territory, briefly characterizes the various types of uranium ores and radioactive occurrences, and describes the geologic, geophysical, and geochemical prospecting methods used in the area. The principal ores are uraninite and associated copper sulfides which replace early Precambrian graphitic shales along bedding and cleavage planes, as at Rum Jungle; autunite deposits in graphitic shale and quartz-hematite veins containing meta-autunite or torbernite in shear zones in granite (as at Edith river) are also present.
