Abstract

The liver was visualized on a routine bone scan performed with 99mTc-pyrophosphate. There was laboratory evidence of liver cell necrosis and this was confirmed at autopsy a week later. The radionuclide is thought to have been taken up by the necrotic liver cells. The possibility that the necrotic liver may be consistently visualized by bone-seeking radionuclides deserves further exploration.
