Abstract
In IT, there is no downtime. Changing careers, the "experts" say, is difficult, if not impossible, and, because programming techniques have fundamentally changed, data processing (DP) experience counts for nothing. However, you can re-enter the IT workforce or change technical specialties if you are prepared to start at the bottom, work long hours and risk being elbowed aside initially.
