Unveiling Smart Libraries: Professional Perspectives on IoT Adoption in Indian Premier Institutions
This study assesses IoT awareness and perceptions among library professionals in Indian Institutes of National Importance, finding high awareness (92.5%) and implementation (78.5%), with strong support for IoT-enabled services like self-transactions, despite barriers such as cost and skill gaps; no significant differences across demographics were observed.
This study examines the importance of Internet of Things (IoT) as perceived by Indian library professionals working in Institutes of National Importance (INIs). It aims to assess their current awareness, perceived importance of IoT in various library activities and services along with limitations and initiatives required to integrate new technologies. A quantitative survey was conducted with library professionals from 18 INIs located in South India, from where 146 valid responses were received out of 153 questionnaires distributed. The survey achieved a response rate of 95.42% with data collected via physical questionnaires and Google Forms. Descriptive and non-parametric statistical tests were used to draw the inferences. IoT awareness was high (92.5%), with 78.5% reporting implementation. Essential services such as self-transactions, surveillance, and shelf management showed strong perceptions to adopt IoT (M ≥4.55), while advanced tools like drones and robotics remained limited (M ≤2.20). Benefits, including accuracy, service quality and time efficiency, were widely endorsed. Major barriers included high cost and technical skill gaps. Statistically significant differences were not observed ( p > .05) majorly across gender, institutional types, and management levels. High support was noted for training, collaboration, and incentive systems with ns = ≥0.85. This is the first attempt to focus on perceptions of library professionals on IoT adoption in Indian elite academic institutions as a pilot study, providing empirical insights that inform policy, planning, and future comprehensive research on smart library transformation.

PurposeThis study identifies key facets leading to consumers' Internet of Things (IoT) adoption intention.Design/methodology/approachApplying four technology acceptance theories (theory of planned behavior, technology acceptance model, pleasure-arousal-dominance theory and technology readiness index), the author uses deductive quantitative research to develop a model, explaining IoT adoption intentions. Administrated questionnaires are distributed in Egypt among generation-Z and millennials in malls. A total of 400 questionnaires are used for hypotheses testing, applying structural equation modeling (SEM) path coefficient analysis.FindingsResults of this study show that attitude, dominance, perceived usefulness, innovativeness and insecurity impact consumers' IoT adoption intentions; subjective norms, perceived behavior control, pleasure, arousal, perceived ease, optimism and discomfort hold insignificant impact on consumers' IoT adoption intentions.Research limitations/implicationsExploring IoT facets and how these facets impact consumers' adoption intentions, this study helps grasp technology acceptance in theory and practice, guiding scholar and practitioners (e.g. IoT developers, retailers, marketers and other field experts) to consider consumers' mindset when developing, improving and marketing IoT.Originality/valueThe contribution stems from the incorporation of various frameworks used to explain technology acceptance. By studying several theories jointly, the research extracts and identifies a significant set of facets (technical and psychological) to build a comprehensive theory of IoT acceptance, showing consumers' IoT adoption is not entirely similar to adoption of other past innovations. This understanding allows marketers to focus on content that needs to be promoted to boost consumers' IoT purchase plans. Future researchers could replicate the results to IoT categories (e.g. home appliances, cars, healthcare, education, sportswear, etc.) to improve external validity of the findings, among other future research opportunities.

PurposeThis paper aims to study the antecedents of Internet of Things (IoT) adoption among farmers and determine how trust in the technology influences its adoption when mediated by perceived value and risk. Through the conceptualization of trust and perceived risk, the authors factor in farmers’ perceptions of agricultural technology providers and discuss different forms of perceived value, spanning economic, green and epistemic value.Design/methodology/approachThis paper develops a distinctive research design, drawing on elements of the value-based adoption and technology acceptance models. By linking different elements of perceived value with IoT technology, the authors also apply the service-dominant logic to this study. They study how trust affects perceived value and risk and then determine how perceived value and risk, in turn, affect IoT adoption. The authors test the hypotheses by developing a structural equation model to analyze the results of a survey, wherein 492 farmers from Iowa, the USA, participated.FindingsThe results show a positive relationship between trust and perceived value and a negative relationship between trust and perceived risk. Perceived value had a positive impact on IoT adoption, whereas perceived risk had a negative impact on IoT adoption.Practical implicationsThe research findings on trust and perceived value and risk are timely and relevant for business-to-business (B2B) marketing practitioners and agricultural stakeholders, especially in an era where farmers are expressing growing concerns about data handling risk posed by IoT technology adoption.Originality/valueThe research findings signal a transition in focus from the goods-dominant logic to the service-dominant logic in agriculture, whereby farmers are drawn to IoT technology because of perceived economic, green and epistemic value and as a result, can differentiate themselves on how well they deploy operant resources. This paper not only provides a unique conceptualization of perceived value but also pave the way for a richer conceptualization of IoT core functions that enable farmers to fulfill green and epistemic goals. This is the first B2B marketing paper discussing the antecedents of IoT adoption in agriculture, such as farmers’ perceptions of both monetary and non-monetary forms of value and perceived data handling risk.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is defined as a potentially effective means of integrating multiple technologies to support the oil and gas (O&G) sector as a network of physical objects connected to the Internet. In Yemen, O&G organizations can embedded vehicles, equipment, buildings, fire siren and wells with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity that is now evolving. It is assumed that in one way or another, everything should be connected to one network to ease processes of business. To make IoT a reality, and not only remain academic, O&G sector must be able to engage in and pick up this technology in its day-to-day activities. Several studies have explored IoT's potential for numerous organizations. However, IoT remains inadequately applied by organizations, including O&G sectors in developing countries. This article attempts to identify the factors that influence users to adopt IoT in the O&G sector in Yemen. Based on a study of prior tests, drivers were identified. Furthermore, a framework is proposed based on information system adoption theory which is the technology-organization-environment (TOE). Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) has become a popular tool for analyzing such relationships is applied to a survey of 390 IoT users, with results indicating that the factors selected in this study significantly affected the IoT adoption in the Yemeni O&G sector. This study is enabling O&G organizations to understand the factors of IoT adoption, to improve their framework of business and investment in IoT and to inspire researchers to continue research into other IoT adoption or implementation factors.

The paper identifies the factors that build a framework of Internet of Things (IoT) adoption in agriculture by using modified TISM (total interpretive structural modelling). This study uses modified total interpretive structural modelling (m-TISM) and MICMAC methods for developing and analysing the relationship between elements that impact adoption of IoT in the agricultural sector. In this process, a framework for successful IoT adoption in this sector is devised. Through an extensive literature review, this study identifies eight factors that can influence the adoption of IoT in agriculture. The result shows that government initiative, crop management, irrigation management, and soil quality management have high driving and low dependence power. Technology is the linkage factor. The interoperability and reliability, control and automation, privacy and security, and IoT adoption have high dependence power. In this study, m-TISM is used to illustrate the relationship and describe the logic between different IoT adoption factors. The study has implications for academicians and practitioners.

This research examines the mediating role of Internet of Things (IoT) adoption in the relationship between core capability (CC) and firm performance (FP) among small and medium-sized logistics enterprises (SMLEs) in China. Questionnaires were distributed to SMLEs in Shanghai, China, by a disproportionate simple stratified random sampling method, and 541 valid samples were collected. SPSS 25.0 was used to test the reliability and validity. Smart PLS 4.0 was used to analyze the structural equation model and the Bootstrap mediation analysis. The research found that core capabilities have a significant positive impact on firm performance, among which software and hardware capabilities have the strongest effect (β = 0.240, p < 0.001). Core capabilities have a significant positive driving effect on the IoT adoption (β range 0.174–0.274, p < 0.001). The IoT adoption significantly promotes firm performance improvement (β = 0.157, p < 0.01) and plays a partial mediating role between core capabilities and firm performance (mediate effect β range 0.027–0.043, 95% CI does not include zero). The path coefficient analysis shows a strong positive correlation, indicating that the adoption of IoT can significantly improve firm performance. The model has good explanatory power (firm performance R² = 0.278; IoT adoption R² = 0.215). These findings highlight the importance of IoT adoption to the core capability and firm performance, which not only enhances the core capability of firms but also improves the firm's performance. which have significance to administrators and policymakers of SMLEs. This research provided robust empirical evidence and actionable insights for advancing sustainable transformation in the logistics sector.

This study seeks to examine the antecedents of Internet of Things (IoT) intention and adoption of Indonesian village-owned enterprises (Badan Usaha Milik Desa, BUMDes) by applying the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The respondents comprised 237 managers and staff of BUMDes in Aceh, Indonesia. A questionnaire was designed to examine perceived usefulness of IoT on the product and service empowerment, perceived ease of use of IoT, and perceived credibility on IoT, intention to use the technology, and adoption of IoT to the community empowerment in the village setting. The data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The generated model of IoT showed three significant direct paths between perceived usefulness, perceived credibility on the IoT, and intention as well as between intention and adoption. The re-specified model of IoT adoption indicated two significant direct paths (perceived usefulness to intention and intention to adoption) and introduced three new paths (direct paths from perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and perceived credibility to adoption). The final model also established partial mediating effects of intention between Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use, and IoT adoption. This study suggests the relevance of TAM to explain IoT adoption in Indonesian village-owned companies.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the most recent information communication technology (ICT) phenomena to have had a global impact upon wireless telecommunications. Due to the benefits of the IoT in terms of developing communication and connectivity between devices, businesses are thus able to enhance profitability, reduce operational costs, become customer-centric and eventually gain sustainable competitive advantage. Identifying and understanding the factors that affect the IoT adoption is critical in order that either the success or failure of an organisation can be determined. The existing literature, however, does point to a knowledge gap regarding IoT adoption in the manufacturing SME sector, in particular within developing countries. This study examines factors that affect IoT adoption within manufacturing SMEs in Thailand and provides further insights into those factors and their interaction. The theories of technology adoption, such as diffusion of innovation and technology organisation environmental framework, form the theoretical underpinnings of this thesis. Drivers and barriers, or factors, which promote or hinder IoT adoption respectively are of particular relevance. The research adopts a qualitative approach by conducting multiple case studies within 10 manufacturing SMEs in Thailand. Both within-case and cross-case analysis are used to conduct these case studies and this leads to the identification of common themes and categories impacting IoT adoption. The study finds that relative advantage, compatibility, business partner influence, trialability, top management support, organisational structure, technology support from vendors, observability, cost, and security and privacy are perceived to influence the decision of whether adoption of the IoT by Thai manufacturing SMEs is undertaken. Within these 10 factors, relative advantage and business partner influence are found to be the most significant drivers, whereas compatibility is found to be the most significant barrier. This study makes both practical and theoretical contributions to the growing body of knowledge regarding IoT adoption. The major theoretical contribution of this thesis is that it provides increased insight into the usage, applications and factors that affect the decision to adopt the IoT within the context of manufacturing SMEs in Thailand. The study presents a conceptual framework that highlights the factors affecting adoption of the IoT in manufacturing SMEs. The major practical contribution of this study is the information provided for policymakers, managers in organisations, technology consultants, and vendors in order that they may effectively implement and accelerate IoT development and utilisation among Thai manufacturing SMEs. Managers of SMEs could use this study as a reference upon which to base effective decision-making with regard to whether to adopt the IoT or not, and also for developing policies that could guide further adoption. Furthermore, IT vendors/consultants could use this study to gain productive insight into the specific problems and requirements faced by manufacturing SMEs when they are thinking about adopting IoT systems, thus enabling IT consultants to design suitable strategies for the widespread adoption of the IoT. This study is the first to examine IoT adoption in the context of manufacturing SMEs in Thailand and its findings will be relevant in other, similar developing world economies.

This research aims to investigate the relationships between Big Data and Internet of Things (IoT) adoption and employee behavior in the chemical manufacturing industry, specifically focusing on the mediating role of organizational innovation. The research methodology employs a quantitative approach that involves employee surveys, statistical analysis, and mediation testing. The primary findings reveal that Big Data adoption significantly enhances Organizational Innovation, contributing positively to Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) among employees. Conversely, IoT adoption has a significant positive impact on Organizational Innovation but does not directly influence OCB. The relationship between IoT adoption and OCB is mediated by Organizational Innovation, highlighting the pivotal role of innovation as an intermediary in influencing employee behavior. The practical implications of this research suggest that organizations in the chemical manufacturing industry should strategically integrate Big Data and IoT technologies to foster innovation and elevate OCB. Leadership support and employee training are crucial. Study limitations include industry specificity, self-reported data, and static analysis. Future research should diversify samples and use longitudinal methods. Recommendations: embrace tech with innovation focus, train leaders, and deepen understanding of tech, innovation, and behavior.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to investigate the influence that technological, environmental and organizational factors have on the rate of Internet of Things (IoT) adoption within the logistics industry. In addition, the moderating effect that the risk factor has on the technological, environmental and organizational factors regarding the implementation of IoT in logistics.Design/methodology/approachFor the purpose of testing the models and hypotheses, a survey was carried out in order to collect the responses from currently employed individuals at various companies working in the field of logistics or IoT. For the purpose of analysis, the authors made use of the partial least squares structure equation model (PLS-SEM) technique.FindingsFindings of this study concluded that technology- and environmental-related factors significantly affect the adoption of IoT in logistics, while risk acts as a moderator for the technological-related factor only in the adoption of IoT in logistics.Research limitations/implicationsThe relevance of the authors' study lies in the growing importance of IoT in logistics and the need for logistics companies to understand the factors that impact the adoption of IoT in their operations. By identifying and analyzing the factors that influence IoT adoption in logistics, the authors' study provides valuable insights that can help logistics companies make informed decisions about whether and how to adopt IoT.Practical implicationsThe research will help organizations make strategies for the successful adoption of IoT and ease the lives of all the stakeholders.Originality/valueIn this research, the authors attempted to find the factors that influence the adoption of IoT in logistics management. Purpose- In recent years, there has been a notable surge in the utilization of emerging technologies, notably the Internet of Things (IoT), within the realm of business operations. However, empirical evidence has underscored a disconcerting trend whereby a substantial majority, surpassing 70%, of IoT adoption initiatives falter when confronted with the rigors of real-world implementation. Given the profound implications of IoT in augmenting product quality, this study endeavors to scrutinize the extant body of knowledge concerning IoT integration within the domain of agricultural logistics operations. Furthermore, it aims to discern the pivotal determinants that exert influence over the successful assimilation of IoT within business operations, with particular emphasis on logistics. Design/Methodology/Approach- The research utilizes a thorough systematic review methodology coupled with a meta-synthesis approach. In order to identify and clarify the key factors that influence IoT implementation in logistics operations, the study is grounded in the Resource-Based View theory. It employs rigorous grounded theory coding procedures, supported by the analytical capabilities of MAXQDA software. Findings- The culmination of the meta-synthesis endeavor culminates in the conceptual representation of IoT adoption within the agricultural logistics domain. This representation is underpinned by the identification of three overarching macro categories/constructs, namely: (1) IoT Technology Adoption, encompassing facets such as IoT implementation requisites, ancillary technologies essential for IoT integration, impediments encountered in IoT implementation, and the multifaceted factors that influence IoT adoption; (2) IoT-Driven Logistics Management, encompassing IoT-based warehousing practices, governance-related considerations, and the environmental parameters entailed in IoT-enabled logistics; and (3) the Prospective Gains Encompassing IoT Deployment, incorporating the financial, economic, operational, and sociocultural ramifications ensuing from IoT integration. The findings underscore the imperative of comprehensively addressing these factors for the successful assimilation of IoT within agricultural logistics processes. Originality- The originality of this research study lies in its pioneering effort to proffer a conceptual framework that furnishes a comprehensive panorama of the determinants that underpin IoT adoption, thereby ensuring its efficacious implementation within the ambit of agricultural logistics operations. Practical Implications- The developed framework, by bestowing upon stakeholders an incisive comprehension of the multifaceted factors that steer IoT adoption, holds the potential to streamline the IoT integration process. Moreover, it affords an avenue for harnessing the full spectrum of IoT-derived benefits within the intricate milieu of agricultural logistics operations.

BackgroundThe global increase in the Internet of Things (IoT) adoption has sparked interest in its application within the educational sector, particularly in colleges and universities. Previous studies have often focused on individual attitudes toward IoT without considering a multiperspective approach and have overlooked the impact of IoT on the technology acceptance model outside the educational domain.ObjectiveThis study aims to bridge the research gap by investigating the factors influencing IoT adoption in educational settings, thereby enhancing the understanding of collaborative learning through technology. It seeks to elucidate how IoT can facilitate learning processes and technology acceptance among college and university students in the United Arab Emirates.MethodsA questionnaire was distributed to students across various colleges and universities in the United Arab Emirates, garnering 463 participants. The data collected were analyzed using a hybrid approach that integrates structural equation modeling (SEM) and artificial neural network (ANN), along with importance-performance map analysis to evaluate the significance and performance of each factor affecting IoT adoption.ResultsThe study, involving 463 participants, identifies 2 primary levels at which factors influence the intention to adopt IoT technologies. Initial influences include technology optimism (TOP), innovation, and learning motivation, crucial for application engagement. Advanced influences stem from technology acceptance model constructs, particularly perceived ease of use (PE) and perceived usefulness (PU), which directly enhance adoption intentions. Detailed statistical analysis using partial least squares–SEM reveals significant relationships: TOP and innovativeness impact PE (β=.412, P=.04; β=.608, P=.002, respectively), and PU significantly influences TOP (β=.381, P=.04), innovativeness (β=.557, P=.003), and learning motivation (β=.752, P<.001). These results support our hypotheses (H1, H2, H3, H4, and H5). Further, the intention to use IoT is significantly affected by PE and usefulness (β=.619, P<.001; β=.598, P<.001, respectively). ANN modeling enhances these findings, showing superior predictive power (R2=89.7%) compared to partial least squares–SEM (R2=86.3%), indicating a more effective identification of nonlinear associations. Importance-performance map analysis corroborates these results, demonstrating the importance and performance of PU as most critical, followed by technology innovativeness and optimism, in shaping behavioral intentions to use IoT.ConclusionsThis research contributes methodologically by leveraging deep ANN architecture to explore nonlinear relationships among factors influencing IoT adoption in education. The study underscores the importance of both intrinsic motivational factors and perceived technological attributes in fostering IoT adoption, offering insights for educational institutions considering IoT integration into their learning environments.

The IoT is a state-of-the-art innovation in information technology that allows for the connecting of many objects over the internet. These devices may do considerable processing, actuators, and sensing. This facilitates the provision of diverse and innovative services related to intelligent systems. Integrating the IoT into corporate operations is crucial for improving operational resilience. Nevertheless, the use of IoT technology in system-supported activities is now hindered by the lack of a standardised system architecture, which is crucial for effectively managing coordination in a smart IoT environment. Business process is considered a significant methodology for the design, control, and enhancement of system processes. This report investigates the present level of Internet of Things (IoT) adoption across several personas and important verticals, highlighting a significant upward trend towards the production stage, driven mostly by digital leaders. Analysing data from business departments that actively shape IoT project goals, such as IT management, executive management, and operations management, reveals the cross-functional nature of IoT projects. Moreover, IoT facilitates the maintenance of regulatory compliance by providing verifiable records. In order to guarantee the successful integration of IoT, organisations must give priority to cybersecurity measures and establish contingency plans, therefore establishing a robust foundation for the ever-changing business environment.

Data is the heart of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The growth of the Internet of Things is one of the main reasons behind this (IoT). The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of interconnected physical items (sometimes known as "things") that are implanted with sensors, software, and other technologies to communicate and share data with other devices and systems over the Internet. However, research on IoT adoption in the supply chain domain is scarce, and its acceptance in industries is also very limited due to the various challenges that come with it. The objective of this study is to gain an understanding of the impact that IoT has on supply chain performance through its integration or adoption. A quantitative approach was pursued in this study, and a questionnaire survey of 200 respondents from the supply chain domain with managerial experience was collected and analyzed using the SPSS tool. The results indicate that IoT positively and significantly affects supply chain performance. Theoretically, this study contributes to the literature about supply chain integration and technologies. This research can help those who want to specialize in IoT and its applications in supply chain management. Organizationally, the research findings tell managers about the potential IoT investment that will lead to a positive supply chain performance outcome.

This study investigates the patterns and determinants of Internet of Things (IoT) adoption among Malaysian small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs), examining organizational characteristics and implementation dynamics. Through comprehensive analysis, the research evaluates critical factors influencing IoT integration, encompassing external pressures, regulatory support mechanisms, technical capabilities, and organizational preparedness. The findings demonstrate that organizational age and size significantly influence IoT adoption propensity, with younger and smaller SMEs exhibiting greater inclination toward Industrial and Retail IoT implementations, primarily motivated by operational efficiency imperatives. While middle management emerges as crucial facilitators of IoT deployment, the study reveals significant disparities in workforce engagement and competency development. Implementation challenges persist across multiple dimensions, including financial constraints, technical complexity, and system compatibility issues. These findings underscore the necessity for targeted policy interventions, industry-specific capability development programs, and adaptable IoT solutions. The research highlights the strategic importance of leadership commitment, resource optimization, and ecosystem support in accelerating IoT adoption among Malaysian SMEs.
