Abstract

Papillary muscle rupture (PMR) is a fairly rare but often fatal complication of myocardial infarction (MI). In previous reports, almost all of the PMR occurred within one week after the onset of MI [1–4]. We present herein an unusual case of complete rupture of posterior papillary muscle occurring over two weeks after the beginning of MI and shortly following successful late reperfusion of the infarct-related artery (IRA).
