Abstract

Abstract Reduction of N-(γ-oxoacyl)oxazolidinone with a borohydride reagent, such as NaBH4 or LiBEt3H, resulted in formation of the corresponding lactone or lactol. In contrast, when an aluminum hydride reagent was used instead of a borohydride reagent, reduction of N-(γ- or δ-oxoacyl)oxazolidinone proceeded unexpectedly to give not the corresponding lactone or lactol, but a tetrahydrofuran or tetrahydropyran derivative, respectively, containing an oxazolidino group.
