Abstract

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is among the most prevalent and burdensome mood disorders, affecting more than 300 million people worldwide, and is the leading contributor to years of life lived with disability (1). Beyond the mystery of the neurobiological pathology underlying the clinical disturbances and behavioral deficits, the most important challenges in the clinical management of MDD are treatment and prevention. Currently, pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy are the most widely used treatment strategies for MDD.
