Abstract

Established in 1874 in Berne, Switzerland, to exchange postal services among nations, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1995 continued its promotion of international collaboration to provide a rapid, economic and reliable universal postal service. UPU also undertook activities and projects to promote postal development throughout the world and to foster closer ties to postal customers. In 1995, UPU membership remained at 189, with no new countries having requested admission.
