Abstract

Thermodynamic reasoning is used to derive a universal multiplicity formula for particle production in high energy collisions. Among the results are the equality of πp, pp and γp multiplicity, the prediction of a slow decrease in deep inelastic multiplicity when Q 2 increases, and the prediction of an s 3 8 dependence of hadronic multiplicity in e + − e − annihilation.
