Abstract

The advantages of biportal endoscopic approaches over conventional open surgery include preserving the normal structures, less intraoperative bleeding, fast postoperative recovery, and preservation of the motion segments. Unilateral biportal endoscopy has been tried and developed to treat cervical radiculopathy caused by foraminal stenosis or foraminal disc herniation through posterior foraminotomy and discectomy. With the development of the instruments and techniques, the biportal endoscopic system can access the contralateral side through unilateral cervical laminotomy. Therefore, we can perform unilateral laminotomy (laminectomy) with bilateral decompression surgery to treat cervical spondylotic myelopathy with safe and well-designed surgical procedures. The biportal endoscopic posterior cervical approach may be an alternative surgical method for treating cervical myelopathy.KeywordsBiportalEndoscopyStenosisLaminectomyLaminotomyCervicalMyelopathy
