Abstract
Flexible Metal‐Organic Frameworks (FL‐MOFs) are emerging advanced materials with the ability to respond to various stimuli by adapting their structure and pore. In particular, FL‐MOFs based on rare‐earth (RE) elements offer a unique and sophisticated approach towards truly novel responsive materials and properties. This Concept article provides an overview of the main principles and factors that affect structural features in RE‐FL‐MOFs, identifying trends and exploring potential rational design strategies. Common challenges and possible future research directions are also discussed.
