Abstract

T here is an unmistaka le lack of adequate security over access to and the use of the information, the computers, and the telecommunication networks on which individual government and business organizations, as well as the larger economy and society in general, depend. The moniker Information Assurance (IA) is being used to identify the initiatives that are being offered to address this lack. In a variety of different earlier times, the efforts that dealt with this problem were known variously as computer security (CompuSec), communications security (ComSec), information security (InfoSec), and information technology security (ITSec).
