Abstract

This study attempts to explore the rise of nationalism and the factors that led to its rise in India ultimately making it free from the hunderds years of colonial rule. Furthermore, the study also explores how nationalism evolved in East Pakistan in the post-partition years of India and Pakistan. The study makes a critical study of the first two chapters of the book Imagined Communities of Benedict Anderson to present a clear understanding of the concepts: ‘Nationalism’ and ‘Nation’. The analytical study of Partho Chatterjee’s Whose Imagained Communities also makes a way forward towards reaching the goal of understanding how nationalism evolved in the European colonies; particulary, in India with an earnest desire of establishing ‘Home-Rule’ and thus forming into a nation-state. Moreover, to conduct the study and to find out the answers to the research questions, the researcher has applied the qualitative research method and has used various journals, books and e-books, and website-articles.
