Technological innovation has been consistently acknowledged as the driving force for organizational success and a potential means of fostering positive customer emotions. Drawing on technological determinism, this mixed-methods research takes a step further to assess the sociotechnical dynamics of technology within a hotel innovation process on the basis of customers’ emotional responses. Study 1 analyzes the influence of hotel innovation activities on consumers’ multisentiment traits by gauging online reviews of a smart hotel using deep learning. Furthermore, to diagnose changes in sentiments that correspond to changes in hotel innovations, we adopted a longitudinal design to contrast pre- and postinnovation stages. Study 2 takes a qualitative approach to unlock the reasons that lie behind the mixed positive and negative sentiment responses to changes. The evidence from this investigation points to the double-edged impact of innovation. More importantly, they reflect technological somnambulism—in which customers do not seem to be sufficiently conscious of their choice of technology—highlighting the peril of the smart service encounter turning a hospitality oasis with rich human interactions into an artificial intelligence (AI)–dominated environment.

Preadolescents\u2019 Emotional and Prosocial Responses to Negative TV News: Investigating the Beneficial Effects of Constructive Reporting and Peer Discussion
  • Jan 1, 2017
  • Journal of Youth and Adolescence
  • Mariska Kleemans + 2 more

Watching news is important for preadolescents, but it may also harm their well-being. This study examined whether applying insights from positive psychology to news production can reduce this potential harm, by reducing negative emotional responses and enhancing positive emotional responses to negative news, and by encouraging prosocial intentions. Moreover, we explored whether peer discussion strengthened these effects. Preadolescents (n = 336; 9–13 years old; 48.5% female) were exposed to either constructive (solution-based news including positive emotions) or nonconstructive news. Subsequently, half of the children assigned to the constructive and the nonconstructive condition participated in a peer discussion. The findings showed that exposure to constructive news resulted in more positive emotional responses and less negative emotional responses as compared to nonconstructive news. Moreover, discussing the news with peers led to more positive and less negative emotional responses among preadolescents who watched the nonconstructive newscast, and to more prosocial intentions among preadolescents who watched constructive news. In all, constructive news reporting and peer discussion could function as tools to make negative news less harmful for preadolescents.

An Empirical Research Using PLS-SEM to Investigate the Relationship Between Service Quality Dimensions, Emotional and Behavioral Consumers in The Banking Sector
  • Mar 4, 2025
  • Futurity Economics&Law
  • Ainous Redouan

This study explores the influence of service quality on bank customers' emotional and behavioural responses, emphasising its significance in refining customer relationship management. The research employs Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to analyse data from 213 bank customers through organised questionnaires. The study aims to authenticate a proposed conceptual model that inspects the relationships between different dimensions of service quality and their effects on customer emotions and behavioural intentions. The findings essentially check the hypothesised relationships, with one notable exception: tangible service elements, such as physical facilities and appearance, do not significantly affect customers' emotional responses during service encounters. However, other dimensions of service quality, particularly those related to well-informed and receptive staff, play a crucial role in determining customer emotions and subsequent behaviours. The findings indicate that high-quality service fosters positive emotional experiences, enhancing customer satisfaction, trust, and loyalty. This study offers novel insights into how service quality affects customer perceptions and behaviours in the banking sector. Unlike previous research on overall satisfaction, this study climaxes the distinct role of emotional engagement in influential behavioural outcomes. The practical implications are essential for banks seeking to improve their service strategies. By investing in staff training, enhancing responsiveness, and fostering a customer-centric approach, banks can strengthen emotional influences with customers, ultimately leading to increased retention and long-term loyalty.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted the wellness and health of individuals, particularly healthcare staff. Effective coping mechanisms have been identified as crucial in managing emotional responses Objectives: This study aimed to assess the emotional response and coping strategies among nurses working in COVID referral hospitals in Morang district. Methodology: A cross-sectional online questionnaire survey was conducted from June to October 2021, employing total population enumeration technique with 350 nurses. Emotional responses were assessed using the PANAS-GEN scale, and coping strategies were evaluated using a modified Brief Cope Inventory (BCI). Statistical analyses included Mann-Whitney U-test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Pearson linear correlation, and multiple linear regressions. Results: The majority of participants (84.6%) were aged 21-30 years, and 97.1% were female. Emotional-focused coping was slightly higher among nurses aged over 31 and those with two or more children (p=0.019). A significant relationship was observed between coping strategies and emotional response. Both positive and negative emotional responses correlated with problem-focused coping (p < 0.001 and 0.017). Problem-focused coping significantly influenced positive (p < 0.001, CI 17.044-27.254) and negative responses (p=0.000, CI 16.467-26.104). Additionally, emotion-focused coping was a significant factor in negative response (p=0.001, CI 0.062-0.246). Conclusion: Emotional coping was slightly higher among nurses over thirty-one years old and those with two or more children. Positive and negative emotional responses were associated with problem-focused coping, indicating its influence on both types of responses. Moreover, emotion-focused coping was linked to negative responses.

The relationship between service recovery fairness, customer emotional responses and customer behavioral responses in fitness clubs
  • Apr 4, 2025
  • Journal of Asian Scientific Research
  • Kyongmin Lee + 1 more

The previous research has failed to comprehensively examine the relationship between the negative emotional responses of customers and negative customer behaviors that may arise despite efforts towards service recovery fairness. Accordingly, this study investigated the relationship between service recovery fairness and customers’ emotional responses by classifying members of a fitness club who encountered service failure into positive and negative categories. A survey was carried out to gather data from members of fitness clubs in Korea who have encountered service failures using a convenience sampling method. Service recovery fairness had a positive influence on customers' favorable emotions and a negative effect on their unfavorable emotions. It was discovered that positive emotions had a positive effect on intentions to recommend and loyalty while having a negative impact on intentions to switch upon investigating the impact of customers' emotional responses on their behavioral responses. Conversely, negative emotions were shown to have a negative impact on intentions to recommend and loyalty, yet a positive impact on intentions to switch. Fitness clubs must enhance service recovery fairness after a service failure to manage customer emotions and establish long-term relationships.

Patient and general public attitudes towards clinical artificial intelligence: a mixed methods systematic review
  • Aug 23, 2021
  • The Lancet Digital Health
  • Albert T Young + 3 more

Artificial intelligence (AI) promises to change health care, with some studies showing proof of concept of a provider-level performance in various medical specialties. However, there are many barriers to implementing AI, including patient acceptance and understanding of AI. Patients' attitudes toward AI are not well understood. We systematically reviewed the literature on patient and general public attitudes toward clinical AI (either hypothetical or realised), including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods original research articles. We searched biomedical and computational databases from Jan 1, 2000, to Sept 28, 2020, and screened 2590 articles, 23 of which met our inclusion criteria. Studies were heterogeneous regarding the study population, study design, and the field and type of AI under study. Six (26%) studies assessed currently available or soon-to-be available AI tools, whereas 17 (74%) assessed hypothetical or broadly defined AI. The quality of the methods of these studies was mixed, with a frequent issue of selection bias. Overall, patients and the general public conveyed positive attitudes toward AI but had many reservations and preferred human supervision. We summarise our findings in six themes: AI concept, AI acceptability, AI relationship with humans, AI development and implementation, AI strengths and benefits, and AI weaknesses and risks. We suggest guidance for future studies, with the goal of supporting the safe, equitable, and patient-centred implementation of clinical AI.

This study attempted to provide beauty salons with useful data needed to make profits by making customers clearly aware their distinctiveness through beauty salon selection attributes after investigating the influence of such attributes on customers’ emotional responses and behavioral intention. For this, a questionnaire survey was performed, and a total of 341 copies were used for final analysis. The collected data were analyzed by frequency analysis, reliability analysis and multiple regression analysis, using SPSS 24.0, and the results found the followings: First, beauty salon selection attributes were divided into products, convenience facilities, human services and interior image. In addition, customers’ emotional responses were classified into cognitive and emotional responses while behavioral intention remains in a single dimension. Second, beauty salon selection attributes had a positive effect on customer’ emotional response and behavioral intention with statistical significance. The above results confirm that beauty salon selection attributes affect customer emotions and at the same time induce positive customer behavior. In other words, they could be a good means of marketing to attract customers. It is anticipated that there would be further studies with more diverse age ranges and regions through the segmentation of variables.
