Abstract

This article discusses using robots or 'hyberBots' at Network Rail to repair and build new underground tunnels, specifically for the UK's regional railway infrastucture. This approach is claimed to be friendlier to the environment with more sustainable materials being used, along with being safer as no humans are required to enter the underground stuctures. The robots are capable of 3D printing tunnel shells and deploying construction material directly to the ground.
