Abstract

<h3>MEDICAL SCHOOLS Accreditation</h3> The official accrediting body for educational programs leading to the MD degree is the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), which is listed for this purpose by the US Secretary of Education and recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation. (For membership in the LCME, see Appendix I.) The criteria by which the LCME accredits such programs in the United States, and in Canada in cooperation with the Committee for the Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools, are published in "Functions and Structure of a Medical School; Standards for Accreditation of Medical Education Programs Leading to the MD Degree" (see Section I).
