Abstract

This paper reports on using magneto-resistive heads with soft magnetic "under-keeper" layers below the media. A simple model based on imaging is in agreement with experimental data. The keeper layer screens low spatial frequency media signals, narrowing the read pulse slightly. In addition, the keeper introduces noise at low spatial frequency.
