Abstract

The experience of evil and suffering is a real fact and facing this is necessary to find sense in the mistery of pain. It is only from a faithful look that we can get closer to the deep mistery of suffering. There are innumerable questions that emerge from this experience: Why does evil exist? Does God allow it? Why doesn't God stop such terrible experience of pain and suffering? From all of these questions and others that could probably emerge, it is strictly necessary to make a theological question: Is it possible to even think about God's suffering? This led to a paradigm shift in Trinitarian-theological reflection, moving from the notion of an immutable and apathetic God, to a passive and suffering God. In this article, the author addresses the study of the axiom of divine patheia from its causes, its theological implications and the contributions of contemporary theological reflection, to enlighten the real and suffering man of our time and to express its relevance and capital importance in current theological reflection.
