Abstract

We have fabricated a glass medium that has ultrawideband fluorescence spectra with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 420 nm in the infrared region, 1100 to 1600 nm by codoping Er2O3 into bismuth-doped silica glass. A possible application is as a broadband optical fiber amplifier, or as an ultrashort-pulse laser amplifier.
