Abstract

Abstract The electronic contribution to the normal state ultrasonic attenuation of longitudinal waves propagating in aluminum has been calculated using a pseudopotential model for both the Fermi surface and its changes with strain. The resulting deformation parameter gives good agreement with the ultrasonic data and with the area changes observed from dHvA measurements under hydrostatic pressure.
