Abstract

To develop highly efficient catalysts with low Pt content for electrocatalytic methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) is meaningful yet still challenged. Here, PtPdCdZnCo ultrafine high-entropy alloy (uf-HEA) nanoparticles (∼2.6 nm) were achieved by a facile one-pot chemical synthesis. As MOR catalyst, the uf-HEA displays ultrahigh mass activity of 2.86 and 11.1 A mgPt−1 in acidic and alkaline environments, respectively. That is the best acidic MOR catalyst so far by comparing with other reported Pt-based catalysts. Study suggests the outstanding MOR activity is attributed to the weakened reaction intermediates adsorption on uf-HEA surface.
