Abstract

The UK government last month gave the green light to the construction of a new generation of nuclear power stations. The controversial decision was one of a wide range of measures contained within a Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) review intended to tackle climate change and ensure the security of the country's energy supply. Nuclear plants emit almost no carbon dioxide and could, says the government, help reduce the country's reliance on imported energy.
