Abstract

Two tetranuclear DyIII-based compounds, namely [Dy4L4(Ph2acac)2(OH)2(DMF)2] (H2L = (E)-2-(((2-hydroxyphenyl)imino)methyl) −6-methoxyphenol; Ph2acacH = β-diketones dibenzoylmethane) and [Dy4L4(acac)2(OH)2(DMF)2] ·2CH3CN (acacH = acetylacetone) have been obtained under solvothermal condition. The key structural feature of them can be described as co-planar defect-dicubane. The four coplanar DyIII ions are bridged by two μ3-OH ligands located on opposite sides of the Dy4 plane with one μ3-OH above the Dy4 plane, and the other one below the Dy4 plane. Furthermore, two compounds show single molecule magnets behavior with energy barrier of 50.1 K for 1 and 147.2 K for 2 respectively.
