Abstract

A dicyanoisophorone derivative (1) with a D-π-A structure has been synthesized. 1 displayed characteristic of intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) and exhibited very weak fluorescence in solvents (ϕf ≤ 0.01) but strong red fluorescence in solid-state (ϕf = 0.45). Mechanism demonstrated that the strong emission in solid state resulted from aggregation-induced emission (AIE). Furthermore, 1 exhibited a strong two-photon fluorescence in solid-state and a bright two-photon fluorescence imaging in live cells was obtained upon irradiation with 900 nm fs laser.
