Abstract

t umoral calcinosis (TC) is a term first used by Inclan n 1943 to describe a subcutaneous calcified tumor ith elastic consistency found predominately in perirticular tissues. It is a rare familial disorder of unnown cause that occurs predominately in black Aficans with onset usually in the first or second decade nd rarely found beyond the age of 50 years. Since the isease was first described by Duret in 1899 there ave been approximately 200 cases reported in the iterature. Tumoral calcinosis is most often found in the hips, lbows, and shoulders, but rarely in the face. In the nglish literature, there have been only 3 reported ases of TC in the periarticular region of the temporoandibular joint Only 1 case of TC within the rticular disc of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) as previously been reported. As far as can be ascerained, this is only the second reported case of TC ccurring within the articular disc of the TMJ.
